A few months ago, my friend Rachel got engaged and I was excited when she asked me to take engagement photos for her and her fiance, Steven.

We decided to do the shoot in late October, so I wasn’t sure how much sunlight we would have throughout the day for outdoor shots. I wanted to maximize the day by starting early, as we had a lot of ground to cover since Rachel and Steven wanted a number of DC landmarks and scenes as their backdrop. These two made some creative choices in selecting their casual outfits, which included their college sweatshirts and their favorite football team’s jerseys.

We started shooting around 7AM on a beautiful Sunday morning and I was happy to see that these two were quite comfortable with the camera from the beginning. One wonderful thing about these two is that you will never have to ask them to smile! They were smiling and laughing all day.

The Dupont Circle neighborhood was a great backdrop to start the shoot and the sun was at just the right angle to light the scene. From there, we made our way down to the National Mall and then finished at Union Station.
